An interpretation of a key motif from art history in pyrography. The work combines a Renaissance reference, wood grain and contemporary appropriation. The surface of the support is not concealed but becomes a resonating space for the depiction, giving the image its handcrafted presence. Read as a portrait, the work refuses a smooth surface and instead seeks character, memory and presence.
