Ralph D. Woop

2017

A graphically strong portrait with a reduced line and a distinctive expression. The pyrography gives the motif a bold yet handmade effect. The surface of the support is not concealed but becomes a resonating space for the depiction, giving the image its handcrafted presence. Read as a portrait, the work refuses a smooth surface and instead seeks character, memory and presence.
