Ralph D. Woop

2017

A large-format portrait in wanted-poster style. The work combines pop culture, wood burning and a bold narrative form. The warmth of the wood and the depth of the pyrography give the motif a physical, almost relief-like effect. Read as a portrait, the work refuses a smooth surface and instead seeks character, memory and presence.
