Angel with a Scorpion

On request

Ralph D. Woop

2026

An angel finds herself stranded in time. She does not flee from the scorpion in her lap but holds still – as if she knew that poison cannot be separated from life. Beside her the clock sinks into the sand: time is no longer measured here, it is buried. Everything earthly – body, sand and clock – is burnt into the wood and remains; only the sky and the wings are painted on, like the memory of a place to which there is no return. Perhaps this is the quiet grace of the picture: not to defeat the darkness, but to meet it without fear.
